In a recent report, Sport stated that Atletico Madrid attacker Joao Felix prefers a move to Barcelona this summer. It has been revealed that the Madrid club are willing to sell the Portuguese talent to Aston Villa but the player has his heart set on a move to the Catalan club.
Felix’s Impressive Loan Spell At Barcelona Last Season
Felix had a decent loan spell at the Nou Camp in the previous campaign when he put in a run of influential displays for Barca in the final third. The Portugal international scored ten goals and picked up six assists in 44 matches for his current employers last season across all competitions.
The Viseu-born talent was a reliable performer in the final third based on his average of 2.0 shots, 0.6 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per game in La Liga football. He was even tidy with his ball distribution after making 83.7% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Madrid club will run out in the summer of 2029. Hence, it won’t be easy for Barca to get a deal done for Felix this off-season.
What Should Barcelona Boss Hansi Flick Do With Regards To Felix?
Felix is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few driving runs with the ball out on the flanks. He has got the eye to set up a few promising chances for his teammates to find the back of the net. The Portuguese talent can even strike the ball with power and precision from long range. He did well to chip in by scoring and creating a lot of important goals for Barcelona last season.
However, Felix is under a long-term contract at Atletico Madrid, so Barca boss Hansi Flick would struggle to snap him up on the cheap in this summer transfer window. Still, the Catalan club should focus on arranging another loan move for Felix as he could help them compete for some major honours in the upcoming campaign.
At 24, Felix has his best years ahead of him. He knows Barcelona well from his loan spell with them last season and won’t take much time to settle into life at the Nou Camp.
