In a recent print edition, Corriere Di Verona (3 August, page 13) revealed that Everton have tabled a bid for Hellas Verona full-back Jackson Tchatchoua. It has been stated that the Toffees have made an offer worth £6.8m plus add-ons to land the Cameroonian talent this summer.
Tchatchoua’s Impressive Loan Spell In Italian Football
Tchatchoua had a fruitful loan spell at Hellas Verona as he managed to put in a string of solid displays on the right side of their defence. The Cameroon international made 27 appearances for the Italian club last season, securing a couple of assists across various competitions.
The 22-year-old was a decent performer when defending inside his half based on his average of 1.5 tackles, 0.9 interceptions and 1.5 clearances per game in Serie A football. He even distributed possession relatively well after completing 77.3% of his attempted passes in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Italian club will run out in the summer of 2027 which could make it difficult for the Toffees to land him on a cut-price deal this off-season.
Should Everton Boss Sean Dyche Bring Tchatchoua On Board?
Tchatchoua is a solid tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to earn the ball back for his side on the defensive end of the field. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot. The Cameroonian sensation is a good crosser of the ball as well but needs to find a way to add more goals and assists to his game.
Tchatchoua is still unproven at the highest level and would need time to prove his worth in Premier League football if Everton manage to snap him up in this summer transfer window. He is primarily a right-back but can also function as a wide player on either flank if told to do so by his manager.
At 22, Tchatchoua has the potential to be a world-class right-back someday. He would no doubt enhance the quality of the Merseyside club‘s match-day squad. Therefore, the Toffees would do well to bring Tchatchoua on board before the end of this summer transfer window. However, Dyche has to be patient with his development before he can unlock the best out of the Cameroonian youngster at Goodison Park.
