In a recent report, Tuttosport claimed that Everton are in talks to sign Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo this summer. It has been stated that the Toffees would have to rival Leicester City in the race to land the Brazilian midfield ace in this transfer window.
Melo’s Impressive Form In Italian Football
Melo produced a series of impressive displays while on loan at Fiorentina last season. The South American talent played in 48 matches for the Italian club in the previous campaign, finding the back of the net twice and picking up four assists across various competitions.
The 27-year-old proved his worth at times for the Florence-based club at the centre of the park as he averaged 1.4 tackles, 0.5 interceptions and 1.0 key passes per 90 minutes in Serie A football. He was even accurate when distributing the ball from midfield after making 92.1% of his attempted passes in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Turin club will run out in the summer of 2026 which could make it difficult for Everton to snap him up on the cheap later this year.
Should Everton Boss Sean Dyche Go For Melo?
Melo is a tough-tackling midfielder who can make the odd interception for his side when he is playing well on the field. He has also got the vision to orchestrate a few inviting chances for his teammates in the opponent’s half.
The Brazilian sensation previously endured an injury-ravaged spell at Liverpool and could struggle to adapt to the physical side and high intensity of Premier League football if Everton manage to get him on board this summer.
We can expect Melo to enhance the quality of Sean Dyche’s match-day squad. He is good enough to help the Toffees push for a top-half finish in the Premier League but if he can remain fit for them next season.
At 27, the Brazilian is about to enter his prime, so the Merseyside club should go for a player of his experience and skill set in this transfer window. All in all, Everton should take a chance on Melo by bringing him to Goodison Park ahead of the new campaign.
