In a recent report, Bild (subscription required) revealed that Everton are hoping to sign VfL Wolfsburg defender Maxence Lacroix this summer. It has been claimed that the Toffees have identified the French centre-back as a target for this summer transfer window.
Lacroix’s Impressive Form In German Football
Lacroix had a solid campaign at the German club after he produced a series of solid performances at the centre of their defence. The French talent was involved in 31 matches for Wolfsburg last season, netting four goals and grabbing one assist in various competitions.
The 24-year-old gave a good account of himself on the defensive third of the pitch based on his average of 1.7 tackles, 0.9 interceptions and 4.1 clearances per game in Bundesliga football. He was even careful when distributing possession from the back, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 85.2% in the German top tier (stats via whoscored).
Lacroix’s current deal at the German club will expire at the end of next season which makes him an affordable option for Everton to pursue this summer.
Should Everton Boss Sean Dyche Bring Lacroix On Board This Summer?
Lacroix is a solid tackler of the ball and can make some timely interceptions for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when required and is an accurate passer of the ball.
However, there are some question marks over whether the French talent can adapt to the physicality and high intensity of Premier League football. Still, Everton would be wise to get a deal done for the French defensive ace if they want to strengthen their backline in this summer transfer period.
We can expect Lacroix to add some bite and steel to Everton head coach Sean Dyche’s defence. He is more than capable of earning a regular first-team spot at Goodison Park in the future.
At 24, the best is yet to come from Lacroix as long as he continues to improve with each year. Therefore, the Toffees would be wise to bring him on board before the end of this transfer window. He has got the skill set to help the Merseyside club push for a top-half finish in the upcoming Premier League campaign.
