In a recent report, journalist Graeme Bailey stated that Everton are facing stiff competition for Stade de Reims midfielder Amir Richardson this summer. It has been claimed that the Toffees would have to compete with Tottenham Hotspur, Brentford and Leicester City in the race to land the Morocco international this off-season.
Richardson’s Impressive Season In French Football
The 22-year-old had a solid campaign at the French club recently as he managed to put in a run of impressive displays for them in the middle of the park. Richardson registered three goals and picked up one assist in 28 appearances for Stade Reims last season across multiple competitions.
The Moroccan talent offered decent protection for his teammates at the back based on his average of 1.2 tackles, 0.5 interceptions and 1.0 clearances per game in Ligue 1. He has even distributed the ball accurately from midfield after completing 83.5% of his attempted passes in the French first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the French club will run out in the summer of 2027 which could make it difficult for the Toffees to win the race for his services in this transfer period.
Everton Are Facing Stiff Competition For Richardson: Is He Worth The Fight?
Richardson is a tough-tackling midfielder who can read the danger well and is a good interceptor of the ball at the centre of the park. He usually clears his lines when the opposition are on the front foot. The Moroccan sensation is a tidy passer of the ball as well. He is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also serve as a defensive midfielder if told to do so.
Richardson would bring more bite and steel to Everton head coach Sean Dyche’s midfield department. He has what it takes to compete for a regular first-team spot at the Merseyside club in the coming years.
At 22, Richardson still has a lot of room to grow as a footballer and would be a decent acquisition for the Toffees if Dyche can manage to get a deal done for him before the end of this transfer window. He would be well worth the fight as long as the player can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League.
