As reported by Simon Phillips on Substack, Chelsea are planning to approach Manchester City this week for the transfer of Oscar Bobb this summer. The former club want to replicate the successful case of Cole Palmer with the youngster.
Oscar Bobb isn’t getting enough game time
Oscar Bobb signed for Manchester in the summer of 2019. As he found opportunities coming his way, he grabbed them with both his hands. He is regarded as an exciting talent and certainly holds the potential to become an elite attacker in the coming years.
However, Bobb’s game-time has been restricted at Etihad Stadium due to stiff competition. He got to feature only in 26 games last season, where he scored two goals and as many assists. He averaged 0.4 shots, 0.7 key passes, and 0.8 dribbles per game (stats via whoscored).
The Norwegian attacker is a versatile player who can feature in all the positions on the attacking front. Technique, dribbles, holding onto the ball and creativity are some of his strong traits. He also makes in-behind runs to exploit spaces in the final third.
Will Manchester City dare to sell Oscar Bobb?
Chelsea have been active in the transfer window so far as they look to bolster their squad. They certainly need wide-area players as Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke haven’t been very consistent. Hence, the club have shown interest in signing Oscar Bobb.
Last season, they signed Cole Palmer from Manchester City and it became a huge hit. The Blues want to replicate it with Bobb and are even planning to approach his club.
The 21-year-old has been exciting whenever he took onto the field but his development has been somewhat restricted by limited game time. Hence, a move to Stamford Bridge might be a lucrative decision at this point in time.
For Chelsea, on the other hand, it will be a kind of gamble signing. The player might start hitting the ground or fail miserably. However, first, they need to crack an agreement with the current Premier League champions.
