According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are preparing a bid worth €35 million to sign Atletico Madrid forward Samu Omorodion. The player’s camp is engaged in discussing personal terms with the English giants.
Samu Omorodion is a highly-rated striker
Samu Omorodion is one of the best young strikers across the globe at present. He joined Atletico Madrid from Granada last summer. Immediately, he was loaned out to Alaves so that he could continue to get good game time and develop his game further.
Omorodion made impressive progress last season where he scored nine goals and provided an assist in 36 games. He averaged 1.9 shots, 0.5 key passes, and 0.6 dribbles per game (stats via whoscored).
The Spanish is a physically strong striker who can create all sorts of trouble for the defenders. He can hold up the ball to link up with teammates or also make in-behind runs. His strength lies in aerial duels and taking powerful shots.
The deal depends upon Julian Alvarez
Chelsea have been trying to sign a new striker this summer as they don’t want to rely solely on Nicolas Jackson. Though Jackson produced decent numbers last season, the amount of big chances he missed cannot be ignored as well.
Hence, the Blues want to solidify the position with the addition of Samu Omorodion. While Omorodion isn’t an ideal name, to be honest, his signing could benefit the club in the long run. If he can adapt to the Premier League pace and enhance his game, he can serve Stamford Bridge for many years to go.
Chelsea are confident of signing the 20-year-old for around €35 million. However, Atletico Madrid will only let the player leave this summer if they get their hands on Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez. Once they crack a deal with the Premier League champions, the Spanish outfit will sit to discuss the terms with the Blues.
