In a recent report, The Athletic stated that Chelsea keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga is keen on a return to Real Madrid this summer. It is understood that Los Blancos are planning to move in for the Spanish keeper if they lose Andriy Lunin in this transfer window.
Arrizabalaga’s Impressive Loan Spell At The Santiago Bernabeu Stadium
Arrizabalaga had a decent loan spell at the Madrid club as he produced a run of impressive displays for them in La Liga. The 29-year-old conceded 18 goals and earned nine clean sheets in 20 matches for Real Madrid last season across various competitions.
The Spanish talent deserves some credit for averaging 0.6 clearances and 3.4 long balls per game in La Liga. He was even tidy when distributing the ball from the back after completing 82.5% of his attempted passes in the Spanish top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the West London club will run out at the end of next season which could open the door for Los Blancos to sign him on the cheap this month.
Should Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti Bring Arrizabalaga Back?
Arrizabalaga can be a safe pair of hands in between the sticks when he is playing with confidence on the field. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and can use his quick reflexes to make some important saves at the back for his team.
The Spanish custodian has got a wealth of experience at the highest level and already knows Real Madrid well from his loan spell with them last season. Hence, he won’t take any time to adjust to life at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
Arrizabalaga is good enough to serve as an ideal understudy to Thibaut Courtois at the Madrid club in the coming years. He would also be a good replacement for Andriy Lunin if he ends up parting ways with Los Blancos this month.
At 29, Arrizabalaga is playing in his prime which makes him a decent choice for Real Madrid to pursue before the end of this transfer window. With all things considered, Ancelotti should consider bringing the talented keeper back to the Spanish capital this summer.
