As reported by ESPN, Premier League club Chelsea are in talks to sign Atletico Madrid attacker Joao Felix in this summer transfer window. It comes after the Blues’ pursuit of Samu Omorodion collapsed due to a contractual issue.
Joao Felix was impressive last season
Joao Felix came into the limelight during his stint at Benfica. As a result, Atletico Madrid lured him away in the summer of 2019. Though his initial years at the Spanish club were good, things changed drastically later on as he was kept off the club’s plans.
Felix represented Barcelona last season where he turned up 44 times for them. He netted 10 goals and provided six assists in the process. He averaged 1.9 shots, 0.6 key passes, and 0.8 dribbles per game (stats via whoscored).
The Portuguese attacker can play on the left wing, behind the striker or even as a striker. He is extremely skilful on the ball and shows creativity in the final third. His ability to create chances as well as provide finishing touches is really good.
Joao Felix wants to leave Atletico Madrid
Chelsea are hoping to sign an attacker this summer after Samu Omorodion‘s deal collapsed. Interestingly, they don’t plan to go anywhere else as they have initiated the talks to discuss the possible transfer of Joao Felix.
Felix has been a part of the Blues earlier and as Atletico Madrid aren’t keen on retaining him for next season, the player is willing to make a permanent switch. It will allow him to give a fresh start to his career and overcome the ongoing difficult phase.
From Chelsea’s point of view, Felix can actually be a good option given that he has prior Premier League experience. The 24-year-old is not a prolific goal scorer but his abilities in the final third cannot be ignored. Moreover, he can serve at Stamford Bridge for many years to come.
