As reported by renowned transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are in talks with Napoli for Victor Osimhen. To sign the striker, the Premier League club are willing to let go of Romelu Lukaku, which will help in reducing the asking price.
Victor Osimhen is a clinical striker
Victor Osimhen is one of the highly-rated strikers in world football at present. He joined Napoli in the summer of 2020 and since then, he has been operating on a whole different level. He has been a key performer for them across all competitions.
Osimhen turned up 32 times for the Italian club last season, netting 17 goals. He also made four assists in the path. He averaged 3.4 shots, 0.9 key passes, and 0.7 dribbles per game (stats via whoscored).
The Nigerian striker is known for his athleticism, pace, change of directions, and finishing skills. With strong physicality and aerial dominance, he gives all sort of troubles to the defenders. Though he doesn’t participate much in the build-up, he does the scoring job pretty well.
Victor Osimhen wants to join Chelsea
Chelsea were unsatisfied with the performance of Nicolas Jackson up front. Though the striker returned decent numbers, he also missed many good chances in the process. Hence, the club aren’t willing to rely upon him for another season.
The Blues understand that Jackson might need more time to develop. Hence, they want to sign a clinical striker who can guarantee more goals throughout the season. Moving in that direction, the English outfit has been linked to Napoli’s Victor Osimhen for a long time.
However, Osimhen’s massive release clause has kept them away from cracking a deal. But the situation has changed in recent weeks as both the parties are in advanced talks. Napoli’s boss Antonio Conte is keen on reuniting with Romelu Lukaku this season.
On the other hand, Chelsea can finally get their hands on the 25-year-old by still paying a decent fee.
