Manchester City faced off against Manchester United at the Wembley Stadium earlier this afternoon as they hoped to secure a positive result in the Community Shield final. Pep Guardiola‘s men made a good start to the game but were held to a scoreless draw at the half-time break.
Alejandro Garnacho finally broke the deadlock for Man United in the 82nd minute with a composed finish. However, Man City equalised just seven minutes later when Bernardo Silva scored with a good header. The contest finished 1-1 and went to penalties.
Guardiola’s players ended up winning the shootout by a narrow 7-6 scoreline.

The Brazilian made a good save at the back and did enough to win the shootout for his team.
RB: Rico Lewis – 6/10
He did his fair share of defending but offered very little going forward.
CB: Manuel Akanji – 7/10
Akanji got stuck in with a few solid tackles and was accurate with his passing. He scored his penalty in the shootout.
CB: Ruben Dias – 7/10
The Portuguese talent didn’t do much wrong at the back and managed to convert his penalty.
LB: Josko Gvardiol – 6.5/10
He was solid when defending inside his half and had a few bright moments in the opponent’s half.
CM: Nico O’Reilly – 6.5/10
O’Reilly caught the eye at times and made two promising runs with the ball.
CM: Mateo Kovacic – 7/10
He was a positive influence at both ends of the field.
CM: Jason McAtee – 6.5/10
McAtee anchored the midfield well and had a couple of strikes at goal.
RW: Oscar Bobb – 7/10
He caused some problems for the opposition defenders and ended the game with an assist to his name.
ST: Erling Haaland – 6.5/10
Haaland was quiet for most of his time on the field. However, he managed to score his penalty in the shootout.
LW: Jeremy Doku – 6.5/10
Doku made a few dangerous runs with the ball but has got nothing to show for his efforts.

He scored his penalty.
RW: Savinho – 7/10
Savinho was a constant menace in the final third and managed to convert from the penalty spot.
