In a recent tweet, journalist Fabrizio Romano mentioned that Barcelona have reached a verbal agreement to sign Red Bull Leipzig playmaker Dani Olmo this summer. It has been revealed that the Catalan club would pay €55m plus €7m in add-ons to bring the Spain international to the Nou Camp.
Olmo’s Impressive Numbers At The Red Bull Arena Last Season
Olmo had a decent campaign at the German club recently after he produced a series of match-winning displays for them in the Bundesliga. The Spanish talent registered eight goals and picked up five assists in 25 matches for RB Leipzig last season in various competitions.
The 26-year-old was a constant menace in the final third as he averaged 2.1 shots, 1.5 key passes and 1.5 dribbles per game in the Bundesliga. He even distributed possession relatively well in the opponent’s half, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 79.6% in the German first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the German club will run out in the summer of 2027, so it is no surprise that Barcelona have to pay such a big fee to acquire his services this off-season.
Will Olmo Be A Good Signing For Barcelona Boss Hansi Flick?
Olmo can shoot the ball with venom and precision from long range and has got the vision to engineer a few meaningful openings for others around him in the final third. He can make some driving runs with the ball in and around the opponent’s penalty area.
The Spanish playmaker mainly operates in the number ten position but can also fill in as a winger on either flank if asked to do so by his manager. Olmo would enhance the quality of Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick’s attack.
The Spaniard is good enough to nail down a regular starting spot at the Nou Camp and could help the Catalan club compete for some major honours over the next few years. At 26, Olmo is about to enter his prime which makes him a decent signing for Barca to pull off in this summer transfer window. He already knows the Catalan outfit well from his time with them as a youth player and won’t take any time to settle into life at the Nou Camp.
