In a recent tweet, journalist Santi Aouna mentioned that Aston Villa defender Lucas Digne is generating interest from Turkey. It is understood that Galasataray are eyeing a loan move to sign the French talent from the Villans this summer.
Digne’s Impressive Form In English Football Last Season
Digne had another impressive campaign at Villa Park recently as he was responsible for putting in a series of decent displays on the left side of Unai Emery’s defence. The French full-back scored a couple of goals and picked up six assists in 46 matches for the Villans last season in multiple competitions.
The 31-year-old proved his value as a good contributor on the left flank by averaging 1.4 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 1.8 clearances, 0.6 shots and 1.1 key passes per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He was even tidy when distributing the ball after completing 81.4% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the West Midlands club will expire in the summer of 2026. Hence, Emery is under no immediate pressure to cash in on him in this transfer window.
Should Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery Sanction Digne’s Departure?
Digne loves a tackle and can make some important interceptions for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind clearing his lines when the opposition are on the front foot and is a decent crosser of the ball as well.
The French sensation can orchestrate some inviting chances for his teammates to score from the left flank. He mainly plays as a left-back but can also serve as a left-sided wide player if needed.
Digne remains one of the most important members of Aston Villa boss Unai Emery’s match-day squad. However, the arrival of Ian Maatsen could see the Villans let the French talent leave this summer. Still, there is no denying that Digne’s growing influence at Villa Park over the past few years.
Therefore, the West Midlands club should only sanction his exit if they receive a suitable offer for his services. Another option for Emery would be to let the Frenchman leave on loan before deciding on his future next summer when the player would have a year left to run in his contract.
