In a recent report, El Desmarque mentioned that Aston Villa have decided to move in for Atletico Madrid forward Samu Omorodion this summer. It has been claimed that the Villans are willing to pay €35m to secure the services of the Spanish talent in this transfer window.
Omorodion’s Impressive Loan Spell At Alaves
Omorodion caught the eye at times with his performances while on loan at Deportivo Alaves in the previous campaign. The 20-year-old scored nine goals and grabbed one assist in 36 matches for the Spanish outfit last season across multiple competitions.
The Spanish sensation caught the eye at times in the final third based on his average of 1.9 shots, 0.5 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per game in La Liga. However, he was a bit careless when distributing possession in the final third after making 72.5% of his attempted passes in the Spanish top flight (stats via whoscored).
Omorodion is under contract at Atletico Madrid until the summer of 2028. Thus, the Villans would have to make a good offer if they want to get a deal done for the Spanish forward this month.
Should Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery Get Omorodion On Board?
Omorodion is proficient at finding some space for himself to get some strikes in at goal and usually generates some power with his shot attempts. He has got the vision to create a few inviting chances for his teammates in the final third and is a good dribbler with the ball. Standing at 1.93m, Omorodion is a strong presence in the air and can win some 50-50 duels in the opponent’s half.
However, the Spaniard is far from a prolific forward and would need time to settle into the high intensity of Premier League football. Still, Aston Villa should consider getting him on board this summer as he would offer some healthy competition for Ollie Watkins at Aston Villa.
We can expect Omorodion to add some firepower to Unai Emery’s attacking department. He will also help the Villans challenge on all fronts in the coming seasons. At 20, Omorodion has the potential to be a future star in European football. Thus, Aston Villa should focus on snapping him up this summer.
