In a recent report, journalist Pete O’Rourke mentioned that Aston Villa are open to offers for Jhon Duran this summer. It is understood that the Villans are willing to entertain offers for the Colombian striker amid interest from Chelsea and West Ham United this off-season.
Duran’s Impressive Rise At Villa Park
Duran came through the youth ranks of the West Midlands club and did well to put in a handful of eye-catching displays for them in the final third. The Colombia international banged in eight goals in 37 appearances for the Villans last season in various competitions.
The 20-year-old saw a lot of his game time come off the bench which could be why he only averaged 0.9 shots, 0.2 key passes and 0.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. However, he was a bit careless when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 71.1% in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).
Duran’s current deal at Villa Park will expire in the summer of 2028. Hence, there is no immediate need for Unai Emery to let him go before the end of this transfer window.
Should Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery Cash In On Duran?
Duran is proficient at finding some space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He can create the odd chance for his teammates to score when he is playing regularly and with confidence on the pitch. The Colombian talent is a strong runner with the ball but needs to find a way to improve his link-up play on the offensive third of the field. He is primarily a striker but can also fill in as a right-sided wide player if required.
Duran remains an important member of Aston Villa boss Unai Emery’s squad. However, he still finds himself behind Ollie Watkins in the West Midlands club‘s pecking order. Therefore, it is only fair to the player if the Villans cash in on him in this summer transfer window.
At 20, Duran has the potential to be a future star in English football. Still, Emery would be wise to let him go and use the money generated from his potential sale to strengthen his squad this summer.
