In a recent report, journalist Pete O’Rourke mentioned that Aston Villa are keeping a keen eye on Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Giovani Lo Celso this summer. It has been revealed that the Villans are facing competition from Real Betis in the race to land the Argentine talent, who is valued at £10m by Spurs.
Lo Celso’s Impressive Form In North London
Lo Celso served as a decent squad player at the North London club in the previous campaign and managed to put in a few eye-catching displays for them at the centre of the park. The Argentina international scored two goals and grabbed two assists in 24 matches for Tottenham last season on all fronts.
The 28-year-old made most of his appearances off the bench which explains why he only averaged 0.6 shots, 0.8 key passes and 0.4 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He was even tidy when distributing the ball from inside his half after making 91.5% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the London club will expire at the end of next season which could open the door for the Villans to sign him on the cheap this month.
Is Lo Celso A Good Choice For Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery?
Lo Celso can shoot the ball accurately from long range and has got the vision to engineer a few promising chances for his teammates in the final third. The Argentina international is a good dribbler with the ball and can chip in by scoring and creating some important goals for his team when he is playing with confidence on the pitch.
We can expect Lo Celso to add more quality to Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery’s midfield. He is good enough to challenge for a regular first-team spot at the West Midlands club in this upcoming campaign.
At 28, Lo Celso is playing in his prime and has what it takes to make an immediate impact at Villa Park. Therefore, Emery would be wise to move in for him this summer as he would be a good choice for Aston Villa in the short term. He already knows the Premier League and won’t take much time to adjust to life at the Midlands club.
