In a recent report, The Telegraph mentioned that Aston Villa are among the clubs hoping to recruit Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah. It has been stated that the Villans would have to rival Crystal Palace in the race to sign the English talent this off-season.
Chalobah’s Important Role At Stamford Bridge Last Season
The 25-year-old served as a decent rotational piece in Chelsea’s match-day squad in the previous campaign but failed to secure regular first-team football at the West London club. Chalobah played in just 17 matches for the Blues last season, scoring one goal across various competitions.
The English defensive ace gave a good account of himself defensively as he averaged 1.2 tackles, 0.6 interceptions and 3.8 clearances per game in Premier League football. He was even accurate with his ball distribution after making 89.6% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Stamford Bridge will run out in the summer of 2028. Thus, the Villans would have to make a convincing offer if they want to get a deal done for Chalobah in this transfer window.
Will Chalobah Be A Decent Option For Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery?
Chalobah is a solid tackler of the ball and can make some timely interceptions for his team on the defensive third of the field. He usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the offensive and can use his towering 1.92m frame to win a few 50-50 duels in the air for his team.
The English sensation is primarily a central defender but can also operate as a defensive midfielder or as a right-back if needed. We can expect Chalobah to bring more bite and steel to Aston Villa boss Unai Emery’s backline.
Chalobah has got some Premier League experience under his belt and won’t take much time to adjust to life at Villa Park if Emery can manage to get him on board this summer. At 25, the English defender has his best years ahead of him which makes him a solid option for the West Midlands club to pursue before the end of this transfer window. He is good enough to help the Hammers compete across all fronts in the future. Thus, Lopetegui should focus on snapping him up soon.
