In a recent report, talkSPORT mentioned that Arsenal remain keen on recruiting Wolverhampton Wanderers keeper Daniel Bentley this summer. It has been stated that the Gunners are showing interest in acquiring the services of the English goalie this off-season.
Bentley’s Important Role At Wolves Last Season
Bentley served as a decent squad player for Wolves last season when he put in a few impressive displays for them in the Premier League. The 31-year-old made seven appearances for the Midlands club in the previous campaign, conceding ten goals but keeping three clean sheets on all fronts.
The experienced keeper did well to average 0.6 clearances and 4.6 long balls per 90 minutes in the Premier League. However, he needs to be more accurate with his ball distribution after completing 64.4% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
Bentley is under contract at the Molineux Stadium until the end of next season which could open the door for the Gunners to snap him up on the cheap in this summer transfer period.
Will Bentley Be A Good Choice For Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta?
Bentley is a solid handler of the ball and can use his experience to make a few crucial saves at the back for his team. The English talent doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed but needs to find a way to improve his passing if he wants to be a success story at a top club like Arsenal.
We can expect Bentley to enhance the quality of Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta‘s match-day squad. He is good enough to serve as a solid understudy to David Raya at the North London club in the coming seasons.
At 31, Bentley has still got a few good years left in him to play at his best. Therefore, it makes sense for the Gunners to try and get him on board before the end of this transfer window as he would be a decent choice for them in the short term.
Bentley already knows the Premier League well by now and won’t take much time to adjust to life at the Emirates Stadium if Arteta can devise a way to get a deal done for him soon.
