Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, journalist Pete O’Rourke mentioned that Arsenal are stepping up their efforts to land Espanyol keeper Joan Garcia this summer. It has been stated that the Gunners are eyeing a move to bring the Spanish talent to the Emirates Stadium before the end of this transfer window.
Garcia’s Impressive Rise In Spanish Football
Garcia has come through the youth ranks of Espanyol and has done well to prove his worth as a key performer for their senior team. The Spanish talent made 21 appearances for the Spanish club last season, conceding ten goals and keeping 12 clean sheets across all fronts.
The 23-year-old has proven himself to be a safe pair of hands in La Liga and is currently amongst the best young goalkeepers in Spain. Hence, Arsenal would do well to bring him on board in this summer transfer period.
His current contract at Espanyol will run out in the summer of 2028 which could make it tough for the Gunners to sign him on the cheap later this month.
Will Garcia Be A Good Option For Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta?
Garcia is a solid handler of the ball and can use his quick reflexes to make a few important stops for his team. He doesn’t hesitate to put his foot through the ball when being chased down by the opposition attackers. Standing at 1.91, Garcia can be a commanding presence inside his penalty box.
However, only time will tell whether the Spanish sensation can cope with the physical side and high intensity of Premier League football if Arsenal manage to get a deal over the line for him in this summer transfer period.
We can expect Garcia to bring more quality and depth to Mikel Arteta‘s squad. He has what it takes to serve as an ideal understudy to David Raya at the North London club in the coming years.
At 23, Garcia has got a bright future ahead of him and could be a great option for the Gunners to consider in the long run. Therefore, Arteta would be wise to go all out to lure him to the Emirates Stadium before the end of this summer transfer window.
