In a recent report, Belgian outlet Nieuwsblad claimed that Arsenal are facing stiff competition for Club Brugge left-back Maxim De Cuyper this summer. It has been revealed that the Gunners would have to rival Liverpool, Real Betis, Sevilla, Marseille, Ajax, and Wolfsburg in pursuit of the Belgian talent in this transfer window.
De Cuyper’s Impressive Run Of Form In Belgian Football Last Season
De Cuyper had a productive campaign in Belgian football recently as he put in a lot of impressive displays on the left side of Club Brugge’s backline. The 23-year-old scored five times and earned 15 assists in 55 matches for the Belgian club last season across all competitions.
The Belgian talent was a decent performer at both ends of the field based on his average of 1.6 tackles, 1.2 interceptions, 1.3 clearances, 0.8 shots, 2.0 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per game in the Jupiler Pro League. He was even accurate when distributing the ball from the left flank after completing 82.7% of his attempted passes in the Belgian top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Club Brugge will run out in the summer of 2028. Hence, the Gunners would have to make a big offer if they want to win the race for his services this month.
Should Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta Bring De Cuyper On Board?
De Cuyper is a solid tackler of the ball and can make some important interceptions for his team inside his half. He usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the offensive and is a decent crosser of the ball as well.
The Belgian talent can set up a few decent plays for others around him from the left flank and can strike the ball with power from long range. He can even make some driving runs with the ball.
De Cuyper would add more quality and depth to Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta‘s defence. He is good enough to help the Gunners compete across all fronts in the coming seasons. At 23, De Cuyper has his best years ahead of him, so the North London club would be wise to bring him on board before the end of this transfer window.
