In a recent print edition, Corriere dello Sport (21 August, Page 6) mentioned that Arsenal are back in the running to land Napoli centre-forward Victor Osimhen this summer. It has been claimed that the Gunners are eyeing a late move for the Nigerian striker in this transfer window.
Osimhen’s Impressive Form In Serie A Last Season
Osimhen had a decent campaign at the Naples-based club after putting in a run of productive performances as the spearhead of their attack. The Nigeria international participated in 32 matches for Napoli last season, banging in 17 goals and earning four assists across all fronts.
The 25-year-old was a good performer in the final third as he averaged 3.6 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. However, he lacked quality when distributing the ball based on his pass completion rate of 71% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Osimhen is under contract at the Italian club until the summer of 2026 which would make it tough for the Gunners to sign him on the cheap this month.
Will Osimhen Be A Dream Option For Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta?
Osimhen excels at finding some space for himself to get a few shots in at goal. He is a deadly finisher in the final third and can create the odd chance for his teammates up top. The Nigerian talent is a powerful runner with the ball as well and can use his strong 1.86m frame to hold possession up for his team. However, he has to find a way to improve his link-up play in the opposition half.
However, only time will tell whether Osimhen can maintain his good form in Premier League football. Still, he would be a welcome addition to Arsenal‘s squad this summer as he would add plenty of goals to Mikel Arteta’s frontline.
Osimhen would serve as an upgrade over Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah at the North London club. At 25, the best is yet to come from the Nigerian striker. Plus, he has what it takes to help the Gunners compete for some major honours over the next few years. With all things considered, Osimhen would be a dream option for the North London giants, so Arteta should focus on stepping up his efforts to land him soon.
