In a recent report, The Times claimed that West Ham United are keen on recruiting Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay this summer. It has been stated that the Hammers are eager to get a deal done for the Scottish talent in this transfer window.
McTominay’s Impressive Form In Premier League Football
McTominay enjoyed a solid campaign at Old Trafford as he managed to put in a run of impressive displays for Man United at the centre of the park. The 27-year-old did well to score ten goals and secure three assists in 43 matches for the Red Devils last season across all competitions.
The Scotland international proved his worth at times in the middle of the park based on his average of 1.5 tackles, 1.7 clearances and 1.4 shots per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He was even been tidy with his ball distribution after completing 81.5% of his attempted passes in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Mancunian club will run out at the end of next season. Hence, it makes sense for West Ham to try and sign him this summer.
Should West Ham United Boss Julen Lopetegui Snap McTominay Up?
McTominay is a tough-tackling midfielder who can read the danger well at times to clear the danger when needed. He can strike the ball with power and precision from long range. However, the Scottish talent needs to find a way to create more clear-cut chances for his teammates on the offensive end of the field.
McTominay is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also function as an attacking midfielder or as a defensive midfielder if asked to do so. He would even bring more quality and depth to West Ham United head coach Julen Lopetegui’s midfield department.
At 27, McTominay has his best years ahead of him which makes him a good option for the Hammers to consider this off-season. He already knows the Premier League well and won’t take much time to settle into life at the London Stadium.
McTominay would undeniably help West Ham challenge across all fronts in the coming years. Therefore, Lopetegui would be wise to snap him up in this summer transfer window.
