In a recent report, The Athletic provided an update on the future of Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos. It is believed that the Spanish talent is keen on parting ways with Los Blancos amid interest from several clubs this summer.
Ceballos’ Important Role In Real Madrid’s Squad Last Season
Ceballos served as a good rotational piece in Carlo Ancelotti’s match-day squad last season but managed to put in a handful of impressive displays at the centre of the park. The Spanish midfield ace made 27 appearances for the Madrid giants in the previous campaign, scoring one goal and picking up a couple of assists in the process on all fronts.
The 27-year-old saw most of his playing opportunities come off the bench which explains why he averaged 0.5 tackles, 0.4 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.3 dribbles per game in La Liga. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball from midfield after completing 91.1% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Spanish football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Madrid club will run out in the summer of 2027, so Ancelotti has no immediate need to cash in on him in this transfer window.
Should Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti Cut Ceballos Loose This Summer?
Ceballos loves a tackle and can make life difficult for the opposition at the centre of the park when he is playing well on the field. He can shoot the ball with power from long range and has got the eye to play a few decisive passes for his teammates in the final third.
The Spaniard is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet. He is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also fill in as an attacking midfielder or as a left-sided wide player if asked to do so.
At this stage of his playing career, Ceballos is in dire need of regular first-team starts if he wants to improve as a footballer. Hence, it is only fair to the player if Los Blancos allow him to leave in search of more game time in the coming seasons.
At 27, Ceballos is about to enter his prime and could play a more prominent role elsewhere, Therefore, Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti should consider cutting him loose and using the money generated from his potential sale to strengthen other areas of their match-day squad.
