In a recent report, Cadena Cope offered an update on Real Madrid and their pursuit of Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies. It has been stated that Los Blancos’ operation to sign the Canada international is not at an advanced stage at the moment.
Davies’ Impressive Season In Bundesliga
Davies had a solid campaign at the Bavarian club after he put in a series of impressive displays for them on the left wing. The Canadian talent played in 42 matches for Bayern Munich last season, scoring three goals and grabbing six assists across various competitions.
The 23-year-old managed to catch the eye at both ends of the field as he averaged 1.6 tackles, 0.9 interceptions, 1.3 clearances, 1.3 key passes and 2.4 dribbles per game in the Bundesliga. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball from the left flank based on his pass success rate of 88.9% in the German top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Allianz Arena will expire at the end of next season which could open the door for Real Madrid to sign him on a cut-price deal this summer.
What Should Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti Do With Regards To Davies?
Davies is a tough-tackling defender who can make a few timely interceptions inside his half when he is playing at the top of his game. He usually clears the danger when needed and can strike the ball with venom from long range. The Canada international is an excellent crosser of the ball as well and can set up some inviting chances for his teammates to score. He is a good dribbler with the ball as well on the left flank.
We can expect Davies to add more quality to Real Madrid‘s first XI. He is good enough to earn a regular starting spot at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in the coming seasons.
Therefore, it makes sense for Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti to step up his pursuit of the Canadian sensation in this summer transfer window. At 23, Davies has his peak years ahead of him and would be a terrific addition to Real Madrid‘s squad in the long run. However, it remains to be seen whether he can make a smooth transition to life in Spain.
