In a recent interview with Football Insider, pundit Alan Hutton urged Tottenham Hotspur to move in for Juventus winger Federico Chiesa. Hutton said,
“Of course he’s (Chiesa) a good player.
“I mean, he fits into what they want to do, he can fill in in multiple positions, I’m pretty sure he can play number ten, he can play out wide. He can make runs in the pitch, he can make runs outside.
“He’s one of those guys where if you’re a defender, you need to constantly keep your eye on him because he’s always on the move, he’s always looking to dart in behind you.
“Of course, for that kind of price tag (£25 million), I think he’s something that they would look at instead of the likes of Eze who would be £60 million.
“I know he (Eze) can play in different positions but it seems that’s where Spurs are targeting, those wide areas where people can come in, affect the game make things happen, and score goals.
“It just depends on how much money they’ve got to spend and what other targets are they looking for, are they looking for a number nine? Is Richarlison going to leave? There is a lot of ifs and buts and moving parts.
“I suppose we just need to wait and see.”
Chiesa’s Impressive Form In Serie A
Chiesa had a decent campaign at Juventus after he scored ten goals and grabbed three assists in 37 matches for them across all competitions. However, he struggled to be consistent with his performances at times in Serie A.
The 26-year-old deserves credit for averaging 2.3 shots, 1.6 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. He even distributed the ball well after making 77.3% of his attempted passes in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
Will Chiesa Be A Good Fit Fo Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu?
Chiesa is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make some good runs in and around the opponent’s penalty area. He can chip in by scoring a handful of crucial goals for his team.
The Italian talent can even create a few inviting chances for his teammates in the final third. He mainly plays as a left-sided wide player but can also fill in as a right-winger or as a striker if told to do so.
At 26, Chiesa has his best years ahead of him which makes him a great fit for Tottenham boss Angelos Postecoglu’s needs in the long run. Hence, Spurs would be wise to go all out to bring him to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this off-season.
