In a recent report, journalists Danny Rust and Dean Jones claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are set to rival Newcastle United for Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Pedro Neto this summer. It has been stated that Spurs have move ahead of the Magpies in pursuit of the Portuguese wide player.
Neto’s Decent Numbers In English Football Last Season
Neto enjoyed an impressive season at the West Midlands club as he produced a series of productive displays for them in the final third. The 24-year-old scored three times and earned 11 assists in 24 matches for Wolves in the previous campaign across all fronts.
The Portuguese wide player gave a good account of himself in the final third and deserves credit for averaging 1.8 shots, 1.9 key passes, 1.7 crosses and 1.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been tidy with his ball distribution after making 83.4% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Molineux Stadium will run out in the summer of 2027 which could make life tough for Spurs to sign him on a cut-price deal later this year.
Will Neto Be A Good Option For Tottenham Hotspur?
Neto can use his quickness to make a few driving runs with the ball out in the wide areas. He is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can shoot the ball with venom from long range.
The Portugal international has got the eye to play a few decisive passes on the offensive end of the field. He hardly gives away the ball cheaply when interchanging possession in the opponent’s half.
We can expect Neto to add more firepower to Tottenham head coach Angelos Postecoglu’s frontline. He has what it takes to compete for a regular first-team football at the North London club next season.
At 24, Neto has his peak years ahead of him which makes him a decent option for Spurs to pursue later this year. The Portuguese wing wizard already knows the Premier League well and won’t take much time to settle into life at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Still, the pros outweigh the cons of recruiting him before the end of this summer transfer window.
