In a recent interview with Football Insider, pundit Alan Hutton backed Tottenham Hotspur to land Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay this summer. Hutton said,
“I think it would suit him because he’s high energy, and that’s when you get the best of him.
“You see from Scotland games when he’s allowed to burst forward when he’s allowed to get forward, he can score goals and he can assist.
“He can close down, he wins the ball back high up the pitch and I think that’s what Ange likes.
“You see him doing it a lot for Scotland, he doesn’t do it as much for Manchester United because he’s being asked to play a different type of way.
“Fees, it’s going to be probably £30million or above, with the experience that he’s got, he’s still at a decent age he’s got a lot of football in him.
“He gives you something else.
“We talk about Conor Gallagher and how much he’s worth, and he’s a little bit younger to be fair, but Scott McTominay gives you the same kind of attributes as well.
“He would be a real good addition to an Ange team and he would fit in seamlessly.”
McTominay’s Impressive Form In The Premier League Last Season
McTominay had a decent campaign at Old Trafford recently as he managed to put in a few impressive displays at the centre of Man United’s midfield. The Scotland international scored ten goals and earned three assists in 43 matches for the Red Devils last season across all fronts.
McTominay managed to catch the eye at times by averaging 1.5 tackles, 1.7 clearances and 1.4 shots per game in the Premier League. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball from midfield after completing 81.5% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Should Tottenham Hotspur Go For McTominay?
McTominay loves a tackle and doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the offensive. He can strike the ball with power from long range and can contribute by scoring and creating his fair share of goals from midfield.
McTominay would add more quality to Tottenham boss Angelos Postecoglu’s midfield department. He is good enough to challenge for a regular starting spot at the North London club next season.
At 27, McTominay is about to enter his prime, so Spurs would be wise to go for someone with his skillset this summer.
