In a recent report, Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness) mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur are showing interest in Fiorentina full-back Michael Kayode. It has been stated that Spurs would have to pay €20m or more to stand a chance of recruiting the Italian defender this summer.
Kayode’s Impressive Season In Serie A
Kayode had a solid campaign at the Italian club as he managed to put in a run of impressive displays on the right side of their backline. The 20-year-old scored one goal and secured four assists in 37 matches for Fiorentina last season across all fronts.
The talented youngster caught the eye at times on the right flank and did well to average 2.0 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 1.5 clearances, 0.6 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in Serie A. He was even accurate when distributing the ball after completing 87% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Kayode’s current contract at the Italian club will expire in the summer of 2028. Therefore, it won’t be easy for Spurs to sign him on a cut-price deal later this year.
What Will Kayode Bring To Tottenham Hotspur?
Kayode is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when required and can create the odd chance for his teammates from the right flank.
The Italian sensation is a good dribbler with the ball as well. However, he needs to find a way to improve his decision-making in the final third. Plus, there are some concerns over whether the Fiorentina ace can maintain his good form in the Premier League if Spurs manage to snap him up this summer.
Kayode would enhance the quality of Tottenham boss Angelos Postecoglu’s defence. He is good enough to challenge for a regular first-team spot at the North London club next season.
At 20, Kayode has the potential to be a world-class player in his position someday. We can expect him to bring more depth to Tottenham‘s squad ahead of the new campaign. All in all, the London outfit would be wise to step up their efforts to land Kayode this summer.
