In a recent report, Danny Rust and Dean Jones mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to land Atalanta midfielder Ederson this summer. It has been claimed that Spurs would have to rival Liverpool in the race to sign the Brazilian midfield ace in this transfer period.
Ederson’s Impressive Form In Italian Football
Ederson experienced a solid campaign at the Italian club after he put in a series of impressive displays for them at the centre of the park. The 25-year-old scored seven times and secured one assist in 53 matches for Atalanta last season across all competitions.
The Brazilian talent anchored the midfield relatively well as he averaged 2.3 tackles, 1.1 interceptions, 0.8 clearances, 1.1 shots, 0.5 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per game in Serie A. He has even been excellent when distributing the ball from midfield based on his pass success rate of 84.4% in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Atalanta will run out in the summer of 2027 which could make it difficult for Tottenham to snap him up later this year.
What Will Ederson Bring To Tottenham Hotspur?
Ederson is a tough-tackling midfielder who can make a few timely interceptions for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and is a tidy passer of the ball.
The Brazilian sensation can strike the ball with venom from long range and has got the vision to create a few decent chances for his teammates in the final third. He is a good dribbler with the ball as well.
We can expect Ederson to bring more quality and depth to Tottenham‘s midfield department. He would help the North London club challenge for some major honours over the next decade.
Therefore, it makes sense for Angelos Postecoglu to try and get a deal over the line for Ederson later this year. However, there are some concerns over whether he would be able to make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League. All in all, Ederson would be a decent signing for Spurs as long as they can sign him for a fair price in this summer transfer window.
