In a recent report, journalist James Holland revealed that Real Madrid are keeping a keen eye on Bayer 04 Leverkusen playmaker Florian Wirtz. It is understood that the German attacker’s name is on Los Blancos president Florentino Pérez’s wishlist.
Wirtz’s Impressive Form In Bundesliga
Wirtz had a productive campaign at the German club recently as he put in plenty of impressive displays for them in front of the opposition goal. The 21-year-old scored 18 goals and picked up 20 assists in 49 matches for Bayer 04 Leverkusen last season across various competitions.
The German talent was a consistent performer in the final third based on his average of 2.2 shots, 2.3 key passes and 2.5 dribbles per game in Bundesliga. He was even excellent when distributing possession after completing 84.6% of his attempted passes in the German top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the German club will run out in the summer of 2027 which would make it tough for Los Blancos to get a deal done for him on the cheap this off-season.
Should Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti Get Wirtz On Board?
Wirtz has the vision to create a few clear-cut chances for his teammates on the offensive end of the field and can strike the ball with venom from long range. He is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can chip in by scoring and creating a lot of important goals for his team.
The German sensation is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also fill in as a wide player on either flank if told to do so by his manager. However, it remains to be seen whether he can maintain his great form in Spain if Real Madrid manage to sign him this summer.
Wirtz would add more firepower to Carlo Ancelotti’s frontline. He is good enough to help Los Blancos compete for a lot of major honours over the next decade. At 21, Wirtz has the potential to be a generational talent, so Ancelotti should focus on trying everything in his power to get him on board before the end of this transfer period. Furthermore, the Italian tactician could be the ideal man to oversee the German attacker’s development and help get the best out of him at the Madrid club.
