In a recent report, AS revealed that Real Madrid have identified Lazio defender Mario Gila as a target. It has been stated that Los Blancos are eyeing a move to secure the services of the Spanish centre-back this summer.
Gila’s Impressive Form In Italian Football Last Season
Gila managed to put in a run of solid displays at the heart of Lazio’s defence in the previous campaign. The 23-year-old made 29 appearances for the Italian club last season but failed to score or create a goal for them on all fronts.
The Spanish talent was a decent performer when defending inside his half based on his average of 1.5 tackles, 1.0 interceptions and 3.0 clearances per game in Serie A. He was even accurate when distributing the ball from the back after completing 90.2% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
Gila is under contract at the Italian club until the summer of 2027 which could make it difficult for Real Madrid to snap him up on a cut-price deal this off-season.
What Will Gila Bring To Real Madrid?
Gila loves a tackle and can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and can even play his way out from the back.
Standing at 1.85m, the Spanish sensation can use his strong frame to win a few 50-50 aerial duels for his team. He already knows Real Madrid well from his previous spell with them as a youth player. Hence, Gila won’t take much time to settle into life at the Madrid club if Carlo Ancelotti can find a way to get a deal done for him this summer.
At 23, Gila has his best years ahead of him which makes him a good option for Los Blancos to consider in this summer transfer window. He would bring more bite and steel to Ancelotti’s defence and could help the Madrid giants challenge for a lot of major honours over the next decade. With all things considered, Real Madrid would be wise to try everything they can to lure him to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium soon.
