In a recent report, AS stated that Real Madrid are showing interest in Al Nassr defender Aymeric Laporte in this summer transfer window. However, Los Blancos are only willing to sign the Spain international on a free transfer this off-season.
Laporte’s Impressive Form At Al Nassr
The 30-year-old had a solid campaign at the Saudi club as he produced a string of impressive displays for them on the defensive end of the field. Laporte made 39 appearances for Al Nassr last season, scoring four times and earning one assist across various competitions.
The Spain international proved himself to be a capable presence at the heart of Al Nassr’s defence and recently managed to help his nation Spain win the UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany earlier this summer.
His current contract at the Saudi club will run out in the summer of 2026. Hence, it is unlikely that Real Madrid would be able to sign him on a free transfer in this transfer period.
What Will Laporte Add To Real Madrid Head Coach Carlo Ancelotti’s Side?
Laporte loves a tackle and can make life tough for the opposition attackers inside his half. He can make some timely interceptions for his team on the defensive third of the pitch and doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot.
Standing at 1.91m, Laporte can use his strong frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air. Plus, he is proficient at playing his way out from the back. The Spain international would have added more bite and steel to Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti’s defensive department.
However, Los Blancos are unlikely to sign Laporte on a free transfer this summer as he is still under a long-term contract at Al Nassr. Unless the player can somehow opt to buy out his contract, Real Madrid would find it difficult to get a deal done for him before the end of this summer transfer period.
At 30, Laporte has still got a few good years left in him to play at a high level. The Spanish defensive ace has what it takes to help the Madrid giants challenge for some major honours in the not-too-distant future.
