In a recent report, La Nazione mentioned that Newcastle United have learned the asking price for Fiorentina winger Nicolas Gonzalez. It has been revealed that the Magpies would have to pay at least €35m to land the Argentine wide player this summer.
Gonzalez’s Impressive Form In Italian Football Last Season
Gonzalez had a decent campaign at the Italian club recently after he put in a series of productive performances for them in the final third. The Argentine talent played in 44 matches for Fiorentina last season, scoring 16 times and picking up five assists in all competitions.
The 26-year-old was a good performer in the opponent’s half as he averaged 3.0 shots, 0.8 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per game in Serie A. However, he lacked quality when interchanging possession with his teammates based on his pass completion rate of 74.1% in the top tier of Italian football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Italian club will run out in the summer of 2028 which could make it difficult for the Magpies to get a deal done for him this off-season.
Should Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe Move In For Gonzalez?
Gonzalez is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can strike the ball well from long range. He has also got the vision to create a few inviting chances for others around him on the offensive end of the field. The Argentina international added a lot of goals to his game last season. However, it remains to be seen whether he can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League if Newcastle manage to get him on board this summer.
We can expect Gonzalaz to add more firepower to Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe’s frontline. He is more than capable of earning a regular starting spot at St. James’ Park next season and could help the Magpies compete across all fronts in the coming years.
At 26, Gonzalez is about to enter the peak stage of his career which makes him a worthy target for the Tyneside club to pursue this off-season. With all things considered, Howe should consider moving in for the Argentina international before the end of this summer transfer window.
