In a recent interview with Give Me Sport, journalist Ben Jacobs mentioned that Newcastle United could move in for Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville in this summer transfer window. Jacobs said,
“We obviously also know that Newcastle were one of the clubs that approached for Michael Olise, which sort of shows you that they’re looking for that wide, creative, minded player. And although the cost of Olise was too high for Newcastle to proceed, there’ll be other options on the market that I’m sure Newcastle feel are within their budget.
“Crysencio Summerville could be one to watch, although no approach has yet been made to Leeds United.”
Summerville’s Impressive Form At Elland Road Last Season
Summerville enjoyed a decent campaign at Elland Road as he produced a series of impressive displays for the Whites in the final third. The Dutch talent featured in 49 matches for Leeds United last season, scoring 21 goals and picking up ten assists in all competitions.
The 22-year-old has been a decent performer in the final third based on his average 3.0 shots, 2.6 key passes, 1.5 crosses and 2.2 dribbles per game in the EFL Championship. He has even been tidy when distributing possession in the opponent’s half after making 83.9% of his attempted passes in the second tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
Is Summerville A Decent Fit For Newcastle United?
Summerville is a good dribbler with his ball at his feet and has got the eye to play a few decisive passes in the final third. He can shoot the ball with venom from long range and can chip in by scoring and creating a handful of goals for his team.
At the moment, the Dutch wide player is enjoying his football at Leeds United. However, he might struggle to maintain his good form in the Premier League if Newcastle manage to snap him up this summer.
We can expect Summerville to bring more pace and goals to Eddie Howe’s frontline. He is more than capable of challenging for a regular starting spot at St. James’ Park next season.
At 22, Summerville has the potential to be a success story at the Tyneside club in the long run. Therefore, he would be a good fit for Newcastle’s needs this summer.
