In a recent report, journalists Danny Rust and Dean Jones revealed that Newcastle United are keeping tabs on Manchester City winger Oscar Bobb. However, it is understood that the Magpies would have to rival Borussia Dortmund in the race to land the Norwegian wide player this summer.
Bobb’s Impressive Rise At The Etihad Stadium
Bobb served as a decent player in Pep Guardiola’s match-day squad in the previous campaign when he put in a few eye-catching performances for them in the final third. The 21-year-old found the back of the net twice and earned a couple of assists in 26 appearances for Man City last season in all competitions.
The talented winger made most of his appearances off the bench which explains why he only averaged 0.3 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has been accurate when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half after making 88.1% of his attempted passes in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Mancunian club will expire in the summer of 2029 which could make it difficult for Newcastle to sign him on a cut-price deal this off-season.
Should Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe Go For Bobb?
Bobb is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few dangerous runs with the ball out in the wide areas. He has got the eye to set up some promising chances for his teammates up top and can shoot the ball with venom and accuracy from long range.
At the moment, Bobb is not a guaranteed starter at the Etihad Stadium after he fell behind Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva in Guardiola’s pecking order last season. Thus, it makes sense for the youngster to seal a move elsewhere in search of more game time.
Bobb would bring more firepower to Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe’s attack. He has what it takes to compete for regular first-team football at St. James’ Park in the coming seasons.
At 21, Bobb has the potential to be a future star in English football as long as he continues to improve with each year. Thus, the Magpies would be wise to go for a player of his quality and potential this summer.
