In a recent report, The Athletic mentioned that Newcastle United are keeping a keen eye on Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga. It has been stated that the Magpies are eyeing a move to secure the services of the Swedish wide player this summer.
Elanga’s Impressive Run Of Form At The City Ground Last Season
The 22-year-old managed to prove his worth at times for the Midlands club in the final third. Elanga found the back of the net five times and secured nine assists in 39 appearances for Nottingham last season across all fronts.
The Swedish wing wizard was a decent contributor in the opponent’s half based on his average of 1.5 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has even tidy when distributing possession on the offensive end of the pitch, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 75.3% in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Nottingham will run out in the summer of 2028 which could make it tough for the Magpies to snap him up on a cut-price deal later this year.
What Will Elanga Bring To Newcastle United?
Elanga is a good dribbler with the ball and can use his quickness to get in behind the opponent’s backline. He has got the eye to play some decisive passes in the final third and can shoot the ball with venom from long range.
The Swedish sensation usually works hard for his team defensively as well. He is primarily a right-winger but can also operate as a left-sided wide player or as a centre-forward if required.
Elanga would bring more firepower to Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe’s attack. He has what it takes to compete for a regular first-team spot at St. James’ Park in the coming years.
Elanga might even help the Magpies compete across all competitions in the future. Hence, it makes sense for Newcastle to try and get him on board in this transfer period. Elanga already knows the Premier League well by now and won’t take much time to settle into life at the Tyneside club.
