In a recent interview with Give Me Sport, journalist Ben Jacobs stated that Newcastle United are among the clubs hoping to sign Leeds United ace Crysencio Summerville. Jacobs said,
“There is interest in him (Summerville). We know Brighton have taken a look. We know that he could still be on Chelsea’s radar. Newcastle are also interested in the player. So it will still be a big surprise if between now and the end of the window, given how many clubs want players in his position, it will be a surprise if somebody doesn’t make a formal offer for Summerville.
“Then ultimately, Leeds will speak to the player, and they’ll have a big decision to make. But if there are exits at Leeds, it will be because it suits all parties, rather than because Leeds are scrambling, financially speaking, or are forced to sell.”
Summerville’s Impressive Record In The EFL Championship Last Season
The Rotterdam-born talent had a productive campaign at Elland Road recently as he put in a lot of impressive displays for Leeds in the final third. Summerville netted 21 goals and grabbed ten assists in 49 matches for the Whites last season in all competitions.
The 22-year-old has been a consistent performer in the opponent’s half based on his average of 2.6 shots, 2.2 key passes, 1.5 crosses and 1.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in the EFL Championship. He was even excellent when distributing possession after making 83.9% of his attempted passes in the second tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
Should Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe Snap Summerville Up This Summer?
Summerville is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few eye-catching runs with the ball out on the flanks. He can shoot the ball with power and accuracy from long range and has got the vision to create some inviting chances for his teammates in the final third.
We can expect Summerville to add more firepower to Eddie Howe’s frontline. He has what it takes to nail down a regular first-team spot at St. James’ Park in the coming seasons. At 22, the best is yet to come from the Leeds United wing wizard. Hence, the Magpies would be wise to snap Summerville up ahead of the new campaign.
