In a recent report, journalists Danny Rust and Dean Jones mentioned that Newcastle United are among the clubs hoping to sign Juventus star Federico Chiesa. It has been stated that the Magpies are facing competition in the form of Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool in the race to recruit the Italian talent this summer.
Chiesa’s Impressive Form In Serie A
Chiesa had a decent campaign at the Italian club after he put in a handful of impressive performances on the left side of their attack. The Italian attacker was involved in 37 matches for the Italian club last season, netting ten goals and grabbing three assists across all competitions.
The 26-year-old was a constant menace in the final third and deserves credit for averaging 2.3 shots, 1.6 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per game in Serie A. He even distributed the ball relatively well in the opponent’s half based on his pass completion rate of 77.3% in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
Chiesa is under contract at Juventus until the end of next season. Hence, Newcastle could potentially land him on the cheap before the end of this summer transfer window.
Should Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe Snap Chiesa Up?
Chiesa is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make some promising runs with the ball out in the wide areas. He can strike the ball with power from long range and is also a decent playmaker in the final third.
The Genova-born talent is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also operate as a right-winger or as a striker if asked to do so. However, he might struggle to cope with the physical side and high intensity of Premier League football if Eddie Howe can find a way to bring him to St. James’ Park this summer.
Chiesa would add more firepower to Newcastle‘s frontline. He is more than capable of earning a regular first-team spot at the Tyneside club next season. At 26, Chiesa is about to enter his prime which makes him a good option for the Magpies to pursue this off-season.
The Italy international might even help the Tyneside club compete across all fronts in the coming years. Therefore, Newcastle should go all out to snap Chiesa up soon.
