According to Caught Offside, Manchester United are keen on adding Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee to their ranks. The Premier League club are willing to speed up their efforts to sign the player in the summer transfer window.
The Rise of Joshua Zirkzee
Joshua Zirkzee spent his initial years at Bayern Munich but failed to establish himself there. After multiple loan spells, he finally moved to Bologna in the summer of 2022. Since then, he has climbed up the ladders and has been able to prove his talent.
Zirkzee has become a key member of the Italian outfit and featured in 37 games this season. He found the back of the net 12 times and provided seven assists in the process. He also averaged 2.5 shots, 1.3 key passes, and 1.5 dribbles per game (stats via whoscored).
The Dutchman is a complete striker as he can provide finishing touches as well as create chances for his teammates. He is a versatile, intelligent, and physically imposing attacker. He also tracks back whenever needed to provide defensive contributions.
Will Manchester United go for another striker?
Manchester United already have Rasmus Hojlund at their disposal for the striker role. However, the Danishman was a bit inconsistent with his form this season and cannot be relied upon. Hence, the club want to solidify the position with a new acquisition.
The pursuit of Joshua Zirkzee makes sense as the Red Devils can get his signature by triggering the £34m release clause. The player possesses high qualities and can be used as a backup for Hojlund. His link-up play in the final third will also add a different dimension to the side.
However, as INEOS suggests Manchester United will have to raise funds by offloading players to sign new names. The club can bring the money easily but they also have other areas to strengthen. Hence, it will be interesting to see how they plan for the summer window.
