As reported by journalist Rudy Galetti, Manchester United are keen on signing Colombia international Richard Rios in the summer transfer window. The Premier League club are even preparing a bid worth £17m to get his signature.
Richard Rios’ rising stakes
After representing multiple clubs, Richard Rios signed for Palmeiras in the winter of 2023. He showed great signs of improvement as he emerged as a quality player. His solid performances and versatility in the midfielder add a lot of value to the side.
Rios featured in 29 games last season, netting twice and providing an assist. He averaged 1.6 tackles, 0.9 interceptions, and 0.6 clearances per game (stats via whoscored). However, he caught the limelight of the major European clubs for his excellent displays in the Copa America Cup.
The Colombian midfielder can either play in a defensive role or also drive forward in the middle of the park. He is good at tackling and intercepting the plays. However, as he is a capable dribbler and possesses the ability to score from long-range, the player can also play in offensive roles.
A potential signing for Manchester United
Manchester United finished eighth in the Premier League last season. They need good reinforcements in their unit to be able to fight for trophies next season. One of the areas they need to strengthen is the midfield.
Casemiro is likely to leave Old Trafford and the management isn’t keen on opting the buy option for Sofyan Amrabat. With Scott McTominay being linked to multiple clubs, a fresh midfielder should be signed to provide depth in the section.
Hence, the Red Devils have their eyes set on Richard Rios. The player played a vital role in helping Colombia reach the final of the tournament. The 24-year-old still has a lot of room to improve and emerge as an elite name. Manchester United are convinced that they will be able to lure the player away with their £17m offer.
