Premier League club Manchester United have been linked to multiple players as they look to strengthen the squad for next season. The latest addition to the list is Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, as reported by Todo Fichajes.
Martin Zubimendi did well at club and international level
Martin Zubimendi came through the ranks of Real Sociedad Academy. He made his senior debut for them in the year 2016. Since then, he has kept climbing up the ladders, courtesy of his consistently impressive displays on the field.
Zubimendi enjoyed a successful campaign last season where he was also part of Spain’s Euro Cup 2024 winning squad. He featured in 45 games, netting four goals and providing an assist. He averaged 1.7 tackles, 1.1 interceptions, and 1.5 clearances per game (stats via whoscored).
The Spanish plays as a defensive midfielder and sits deep in his side. He is extremely good at winning the possession, blocking the shots, and holding his ground during duels. With good aerial presence and clean passing technique, he is a quality player to have.
Martin Zubimendi is in high demand
Manchester United need a replacement for Casemiro, who is likely to depart in the summer. The Brazilian was below-par last season and struggled badly to make any good influence. Hence, the club need a like-to-like replacement.
In that regard, Martin Zubimendi can be an ideal fit for the role. He plays in a similar position and can control the midfield of the team. He is at the peak of his powers and can make an instant impact upon his arrival. The 25-year-old’s presence will Kobbie Mainoo to play more freely in the middle of the park.
However, the Red Devils will have to overpower the likes of Arsenal and Barcelona to sign the midfielder. On the other hand, Zubimendi isn’t the only midfielder Manchester United are linked with. As they have multiple similar players on their target list, it remains to be seen whom they finally sign this summer.
