According to reputed German journalist Florian Plettenberg, Manchester United are keen on signing Bayern Munich’s Noussair Mazraoui in the summer. The Premier League club are also in direct talks with the player’s agent.
Noussair Mazraoui struggles with fitness
A product of Ajax, Noussair Mazraoui switched to Bayern Munich in the summer of 2022. He has been a decent performer whenever he took onto the field. However, he has also struggled with fitness and missed many games due to injuries.
Mazraoui did well despite Bayern’s poor campaign last season. He featured in 29 games and provided four assists in the process. He averaged 1.8 tackles, 1 interception, and 1.1 clearances per game (stats via whoscored).
The Morrocan defender mainly plays as a right-back but can also play in the left full-back role. He likes to advance forward and play in the opponent’s half. He is an excellent holder of the ball and a good passer. With strong tackling and ball interception abilities, the player provides defensive aspects.
Manchester United need full-backs
Manchester United are already working on solidifying their defensive line ahead of next season. While they have already signed Leny Yoro, they are looking to sign another centre-back and a right-back. Hence, they are making moves for Noussair Mazraoui.
The Red Devils are in contact with Mazraoui’s agent Rafaela Pimienta. Interestingly, the latter also happens to be the agent of Matthijs de Ligt, whom the English outfit has been trying to bring this summer too.
Talking about Mazraoui, his arrival help surely adds depth and quality to Manchester United’s defensive line. He would fit perfectly in Erik Ten Hag’s style of play. However, Bayern Munich might demand a good fee to sanction the move.
It will be interesting to see if United will be able to crack deals for the Bayern Munich duo or not.
