In a recent segment on ESPN FC, pundit Stewart Robson urged Manchester City to cash in on Jack Grealish this summer. Robson said,
“If you were Manchester City, you’d look at Jack Grealish who has done nothing.
“I watched him in the last two games, he doesn’t go past anybody and doesn’t affect games.
“Julian Alvarez affects games. If you were looking to sell one of the players who doesn’t play regularly, Jack Grealish would be the player you’d sell rather than Alvarez.”
Grealish’s Form At Man City Last Season
Grealish struggled to be productive at times for Man City in the final third last season. The English wide player scored three times and picked up three assists in 36 matches for the Mancunian club in the previous campaign in various competitions.
The 28-year-old proved his worth on the left flank by averaging 1.1 shots, 1.3 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per game in Premier League football. He was even tidy when distributing the ball in the opposition half after completing 87.7% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
Should Manchester City Boss Pep Guardiola Let Grealish Go?
Grealish is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make some driving runs with the ball out in the wide areas when he is playing well on the field. He is a pure striker of the ball and can orchestrate a few decent chances for his teammates up top.
Grealish mainly operates as a left-winger but can also play in the number ten position if asked to do so. At the moment, Grealish is not a guaranteed starter for Man City. Thus, it makes sense for Pep Guardiola to let him go in this summer transfer window.
The Mancunian giants can use the money generated from his potential sale to strengthen other areas of their match-day squad. Grealish can also benefit from a change of scenery as he looks to get his career back on track.
At 28, the English winger is playing in his prime. Still, Man City should focus on cashing in on him before the start of the new Premier League campaign.
