In a recent report, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that Manchester City are set to hold talks with Julian Alvarez and his agent over his future. It is believed that the Mancunian club will hold crucial talks with the Argentine talent, who is facing an uncertain future at the Etihad Stadium.
Alvarez’s Impressive Form In Premier League Football
Alvarez had a great campaign at Man City as he helped them win the Premier League title earlier this summer. He managed to put in a run of impressive displays for Pep Guardiola’s side in the final third. The Argentina international scored 19 goals and grabbed 13 assists in 54 appearances for his current employers last season across various competitions.
The 24-year-old has been a decent contributor on the offensive end of the field based on his average of 2.7 shots, 1.9 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has also been accurate with his ball distribution in the opponent’s half after completing 87.9% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Etihad Stadium will run out in the summer of 2028. Hence, Man City is under no pressure to cash in on him this off-season.
Does Alvarez Have A Future At Manchester City?
Alvarez excels at finding a yard of space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He has got the vision to create a few promising chances for his teammates in the final third and is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet.
The Argentina international has chipped in by scoring and creating his fair share of goals up top. He mainly operates as a centre-forward but can also operate a right-sided wide player if asked to do so.
Alvarez remains a very important player in Man City boss Pep Guardiola‘s match-day squad. Therefore, the Mancunian giants should consider trying everything they can to keep hold of him beyond this summer as he could help them compete for a lot of major honours over the next decade. At 24, Alvarez has his peak years ahead of him and could still have a bright future at the Etihad Stadium if Guardiola can convince him to stay for the long run.
