In a recent tweet, Journalist César Luis Merlo claimed that Manchester City keeper Ederson is generating interest from Saudi Arabia this summer. It has been mentioned that Al-Nassr have made a move to sign the Brazilian keeper from the Mancunian club this off-season.
Ederson’s Decent Run Of Form In Premier League Football Last Season
Ederson enjoyed another impressive campaign at the Etihad Stadium as he put in a series of decent displays for them in the Premier League. The Brazilian goalie featured in 43 matches for the Mancunian outfit last season, conceding 34 goals and securing 16 clean sheets in the process across various competitions.
The 30-year-old did well to average 0.5 clearances and 5.6 long balls per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been tidy when distributing possession after completing 85.9% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Mancunian club will expire in the summer of 2026. Hence, Man City are under no pressure to cash in on him in this transfer period.
Can Manchester City Boss Pep Guardiola Afford To Lose Ederson?
Ederson is a solid handler of the ball and can use his quick reflexes to make a few decent saves at the back. He doesn’t hesitate to come out of his lines to clear the danger when required. Standing at 1.91m, Ederson can be a strong presence when coming out to collect crosses and loose balls inside his penalty box.
The Brazilian talent is a tidy passer of the ball as well and has got a wealth of experience at the highest level. He is still one of the first names in Pep Guardiola‘s teamsheet. Hence, Man City simply cannot afford to lose Ederson unless they can find a suitable replacement for him in this summer transfer period.
At 30, Ederson has still got a few good seasons left in him to play at his best. Therefore, the Mancunian club would be wise to keep hold of him as he could help them compete for even more major trophies next season.
