In a recent report, The Sun stated that Manchester City have set their sights on Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite this summer. It has been claimed that the Mancunian giants are set to rival Manchester United in the race to sign the English centre-back this off-season.
Branthwaite’s Impressive Form At Goodison Park Last Season
Branthwaite enjoyed a solid campaign at the Merseyside club after he put in a series of impressive displays at the centre of their backline. The 22-year-old registered three goals in 41 matches for the Toffees last season in various competitions.
The Carlisle-born talent has been a decent performer when defending inside his half as he averaged 1.9 tackles, 1.4 interceptions and 4.5 clearances per game in the Premier League. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball from the back based on his pass success rate of 80.1% in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Everton will expire in the summer of 2027 which could open the door for Man City to get a deal done for him on the cheap later this year.
What Will Branthwaite Add To Manchester City Boss Pep Guardiola’s Side?
Branthwaite is a solid tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to earn the ball back for his team. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when needed and is a dominant presence in the air.
The English sensation is proficient at playing his way out from the back. He already has a wealth of experience in Premier League football and won’t take much time to adjust to life at the Etihad Stadium if Man City can devise a way to snap him up this summer.
We can expect Branthwaite to add more bite and steel to Man City boss Pep Guardiola’s team. He might even help the Mancunian club to challenge for a lot of major trophies in the coming seasons.
At 22, Branthwaite has his best years ahead of him which makes him a good choice for Man City to consider in the summer. He is good enough to challenge for a regular starting spot at the Mancunian club in the future. Therefore, Guardiola would be wise to move in for him soon.
