In a recent report, journalist Graeme Bailey mentioned that Manchester City full-back Yan Couto is on the radar of Borussia Dortmund this summer. It has been stated that the German club are showing interest in recruiting the Brazilian defender from the Mancunian club this off-season.
Couto’s Impressive Loan Spell In La Liga
Couto spent the last two seasons on loan at Girona where he put in a string of impressive displays for them in La Liga. The Brazilian youngster made 59 league appearances for the Spanish club, netting two goals and picking up 12 assists across various competitions.
The 22-year-old has proven himself to be a capable presence on the right side of Girona’s defence. However, he is still waiting to make his first senior appearance for his parent club Man City.
His current deal at the Etihad Stadium will expire in the summer of 2026. Thus, Pep Guardiola is under no pressure to cash in on Couto in this summer transfer window.
Should Manchester City Boss Pep Guardiola Let Couto Go This Summer?
Couto usually works hard for his team defensively and can get stuck in with some solid tackles to make life tough for the opposition attackers. He usually clears the danger when required and can strike the ball well from long range. The South American sensation has also got the vision to create a few decent chances for his teammates from the right flank. He is a good dribbler with the ball as well and can chip in by scoring and creating a few important goals for his team.
Couto is primarily a right-back but can also operate as a right-winger if told to do so. He might struggle to get regular playing time at the Mancunian club as Kyle Walker remains Pep Guardiola’s preferred choice for the right-back position.
Therefore, it makes sense for Man City to let Couto go this summer as they would be better off using the money generated from his potential sale to strengthen other areas of their match-day squad. However, there is no denying that the Brazilian has the potential to be a world-class full-back soon, so another option for Man City would be to send him out on loan before deciding on his long-term future next summer.
