In a recent tweet, El Chiringuito stated that Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez wants to leave this summer. It is understood that the Argentine talent is keen on parting ways with the Mancunian club after rejecting a new four-year contract to stay at the Etihad Stadium.
Alvarez’s Impressive Form At The Etihad Stadium
Alvarez had a brilliant campaign at the Mancunian club after he put in a series of impressive performances as the focal point of their attack. The Argentine playmaker scored 19 goals and secured 13 assists in 54 matches for Man City last season across various competitions.
The Calchin-born sensation was a consistent performer on the offensive end of the field based on his average of 2.7 shots, 1.9 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has even been excellent when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 87.9% in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Etihad Stadium will run out in the summer of 2028. Hence, Pep Guardiola is under no immediate pressure to cash in on him in this transfer period.
Can Manchester City Boss Pep Guardiola Afford To Lose Alvarez?
Alvarez is proficient at finding a yard of space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He can shoot the ball with power from long range and has got the vision to engineer some decisive passes for his teammates on the offensive end of the field.
The Argentine sensation is a decent dribbler with the ball as well and can chip in by scoring and creating his fair share of goals up top. He is primarily a centre-forward but can also function as a right-sided wide player if asked to do so.
Alvarez remains one of the most important members of Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola’s squad. On his day, he can be a match-winner for the Mancunian club. Thus, Guardiola simply cannot afford to lose him unless he signs a good replacement for him this summer.
At 24, the best is yet to come from the Argentina international. Therefore, Man City would be wise to try and keep hold of Alvarez for the long run.
