In a recent report, The Daily Express claimed that Manchester City are showing interest in Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes this summer. It has been revealed that the Mancunian outfit are eager to land the Brazilian midfield ace this off-season.
Guimaraes’ Impressive Form At St. James’ Park Last Season
Guimaraes had a solid campaign at the Tyneside club recently as he was responsible for putting in a handful of influential performances at the centre of the park. The Brazilian talent played in 50 matches for the Magpies last season, netting seven goals and grabbing ten assists in multiple competitions.
The 26-year-old was a reliable performer in the middle of the park and did well to average 2.4 tackles, 0.9 interceptions, 0.5 clearances, 1.3 shots, 1.7 key passes and 1.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He was even excellent when distributing possession from midfield after completing 85% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Newcastle will run out in the summer of 2028. Thus, it won’t be easy for Man City to find a way to arrange a cut-price move for him in this transfer window.
Will Guimaraes Be A Dream Signing For Manchester City?
Guimaraes is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn possession back for his team in midfield. He usually clears his lines when needed and can shoot the ball with power and precision from long range. The Brazilian talent has got the eye to play a few decisive passes in the opponent’s half and is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet. He mainly operates as a defensive midfielder but can also function as a box-to-box midfielder if required.
Guimaraes would no doubt add a lot of quality to Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola’s midfield department. He is good enough to help the Mancunian club challenge for some major trophies over the next few years.
At 26, Guimaraes is about to enter his prime which makes him a dream signing for Man City to pursue before the end of this transfer period. He already knows the Premier League well and won’t take much time to settle into life at the Etihad Stadium.
