In a recent report, Sky Sport Germany mentioned that Manchester City are showing interest in Red Bull Leipzig playmaker Dani Olmo this summer. It has been stated that the Mancunian club would have to rival Manchester United and Barcelona in the race to sign the German talent this off-season.
Olmo’s Decent Form In German Football Last Season
The 26-year-old produced a handful of decent displays for RB Leipzig on the offensive end of the field. Olmo featured in 25 matches for the German club last season, finding the back of the net eight times and picking up five assists in various competitions.
The German talent was a real menace in the opponent’s half as he averaged 2.1 shots, 1.5 key passes and 1.5 dribbles per game in Bundesliga football. He has even been careful when interchanging possession with his teammates based on his pass completion rate of 79.6% in the German first division (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at the Red Bull Arena will expire in the summer of 2027. Hence, Man City would have to make a convincing offer if they are serious about acquiring the services of the talented playmaker.
Is OImo A Decent Choice For Manchester City Boss Pep Guardiola?
Olmo can shoot the ball with venom and accuracy from long range and has got the vision to engineer a few promising chances for his teammates in the final third. He is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can chip in by scoring and creating his fair share of goals in the opponent’s half.
The German talent is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also play as a wide player on either flank if asked to do so. We can expect him to bring more firepower to Man City boss Pep Guardiola’s attack.
At 26, Olmo has his prime years ahead of him which makes him a decent choice for the Mancunian club to consider this off-season. He might even help Man City challenge for some major honours over the next few years. However, it remains to be seen whether he can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League if Guardiola opts to bring him to the Etihad Stadium in this summer transfer window.
